Gemini - Art Radio for the Meteor Shower

My piece (E)Missions, of live manipulated sounds from the NASA archives will be part of Niki Matita’s Night Radio Extravaganza GEMINI tonight - transmitted from a make-shift studio on a balcony at Werkstatthaus in Stuttgart to observe the meteor showers that will be visible tonight on both half of the hemisphere! On the night of 13-14 December, the Geminid shower of shooting stars will be visible from both hemispheres of the Earth. For this purpose, the balcony of the Werkstatthaus will be transformed into an outdoor studio for the duration of a radio art night dedicated to the meteor shower and the twin motif.

On this occasion, the venue of the exhibition “Nachtstücke”, the Haus der Katholischen Kirche will also be the starting point for a radio night walk under the guidance the artist and cultural anthropologist Niki Matita.

Since 2020, Niki Matita has been exploring different places by walking and listening in her radio pshow “La Passante Ecoutante”. Based on this, those interested can set out on a guided night hike at 10 pm from Königstraße to Uhlandshöhe and become an interactive part of the programme with this expedition.

The date and the choice of theme for the evening is based on the meteor stream whose radiant lies near the star Castor in the constellation Gemini, which gave it the name Geminids. The Gemini/ twin theme will accompany the participants and listeners through the night. The expedition, chance encounters, arranged conversations with guests, international submissions from an open call and a cosmic musical accompaniment will be broadcast live on Free Radio for Stuttgart (FM 99.2 MHz) and can be heard on the radio at home and on the road - or together in the Werkstatthauscafé.
